Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Prayagraj

A branch center of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math

Prayagraj (Allahabad) or Prayag is one of the largest cities in the state of Uttar Pradesh. An inland peninsula, Prayagraj (Allahabad) is surrounded by the rivers Ganga and Yamuna from three sides. The city is known as a ‘‘Historian’s Paradise" for the versatility of religions and spirituality it embodies. This ancient town is illustrated by supposed references in the Vedas to Prayag which existed as early as 600 B.C. Prayagraj (Allahabad) is also glorified for Kumbh Mela at Triveni Sangam by devotees around the world. Above All, Prayagraj (Allahabad) is well known among devotees of the Ramakrishna Order as one of the oldest branch centres of Belur Math. Started by Swami Vijnananandaji Maharaj, an engineer brother monk of Swami Vivekananda in the year 1910, this Math proves its excellence completing more than 100 years in the service of mankind without discrimination of caste, creed and religion. Swami Vijnananandaji Maharaj more than 28 years lived here and became a legendary for his silent but vigorous spiritual practices which is a vital cause to change the course of many lives. From the start of the Centre, he organised philanthropic activities for the poor in the surrounding areas, with very limited resources. We follow the vision of Swami Vijnananandji Maharaj till today, but on a large scale. A brief sketch of the activities of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Prayagraj (Allahabad), presents the versatility of the services performed by the Ramakrishna Order.
